About the Project

The Cicero Substation Project consists of the construction of a new 115-13.2 kilovolt (kV) substation at 8236 Brewerton Road in the Town of Cicero, New York. It will be an open-air design with a control house, two 40 MVA transformers, two 115 kV circuit switchers, and eight 13.2 kV feeders, four of which will be for future use. There will be 13.2 kV underground distribution line feeders that will be installed from the new substation along Route 11 to the intersection of Route 31.

The Cicero Substation is the last phase of the Clay-DeWitt and Clay-Teall Rebuild Project, which included rebuilding two existing 115 kV transmission lines in the Towns of Clay, Cicero, DeWitt, and Salina, which are now constructed and were placed into service in 2021.

Project Benefits:

  • Provide Relief for Existing Infrastructure: Area growth has increased electricity demand. Constructing the Cicero Substation will address capacity issues.
  • Meeting Future Energy Needs: Adding capacity will allow for future growth in the North Syracuse area, meeting current and future electric load needs.
