FAQs: Bennett Ave Upgrade
This project will be located on Bennett Avenue & Westbury Boulevard in Hempstead, NY.
The work involves excavating the roadway and/or sidewalks on Bennett Avenue to install upgraded infrastructure. Once complete, the roadway, sidewalks, and other areas that were disturbed by construction will be restored.
We are making investments to reinforce the local distribution system in your neighborhood to ensure our Staten Island customers receive safe and reliable energy service. This project will build a more reliable local energy system by reinforcing underground infrastructure.
Monday through Friday 7AM to 4PM*

There will be no night work except for when we perform quality assurance testing and procedures. These procedures typically take multiple days of 24-hour monitoring by crews on-site, but doesn’t have much noise disturbance, just presence of crews throughout the night to monitor the tests.
Yes. Our top priority is the safety of our customers, the public, employees, and contractors. The professional construction firms we work with also place safety as their top priority.
No. This work will be managed so that service interruption will not be an issue.
Construction is expected to start in May 2024 and completion of this project is set for October 2024. Restoration activities will take place in September 2024.
Traffic will be impacted during construction on Bennett Avenue, traffic flow will change from two-way to one-way. A traffic flagger will be on-site during construction hours to assist vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Our team is working with local municipalities to ensure the safety of the area where our work will take place and plans to mitigate traffic issues to the greatest extent feasible.
No. Our work is in the public right of way (ROW) in roadway and/or sidewalk areas. Every area we disturb, we will restore back to its original condition or better.
While our contractors will make efforts to keep disturbance to a minimum, there will be noise associated with this project. Most of that noise will occur while excavation is underway as contractors use heavy equipment to trench ahead of installing upgraded infrastructure.
