This project will be in the vicinity of Starr Street, Metropolitan Avenue, and Flushing Avenue in Queens, NY.

The work involves excavating the road and rebuilding our regulator station on Starr Street. Then retiring and removing the existing station on Metropolitan Avenue and Flushing Avenue.

We are making investments to reinforce the local distribution system in your neighborhood to ensure our Queens customers receive safe and reliable energy service. This project will build a more reliable local natural energy system by reinforcing local underground infrastructure. 

Due to the community being heavily congested with vehicular traffic, the DOT will only permit us to conduct work during the night to decrease traffic impacts within the community. There will be night work for Flushing Avenue and Metropolitan Avenue nightly, 10:00PM to 5:30AM.*

Yes. Our top priority is the safety of our customers, the public, employees, and contractors. The professional construction firms we work with also place safety as their top priority. 

No. This work will be managed so that service interruption will not be an issue. 

Construction is expected to start winter 2024 and will continue through winter 2025. Restoration of the area will occur at the final stages of the project in Winter 2025.

Traffic will be impacted during construction along the project route on Flushing Avenue, Metropolitan Avenue, and Starr Street. Our team is working with the city to ensure the safety of the area where our work will take place and plans to mitigate traffic issues to the greatest extent feasible. Detour Signs will be posted on nearby streets and a traffic flagger will be on-site during construction hours. 

No. Our work is in the public right of way (ROW) in roadway and/or sidewalk areas. Every area we disturb, we will restore back to its original condition or better.

While our contractors will make efforts to keep disturbance to a minimum, there will be noise associated with this project. Most of that noise will occur while excavation is underway as contractors use heavy equipment to trench ahead of the infrastructure work.
