National Grid Employee Volunteers Partner with Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk County to Help Build a New Home for a Single Mother and her Two Sons

MASTIC BEACH, NY - About 40 National Grid employee volunteers partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk County to help build a new home in Mastic Beach for the Ogunnoiki family.

Olabisi Ogunnoiki who is a single mother of two sons Otega 18 and Tobor 15, works with people with developmental disabilities. Otega is a freshman in college and Tobor is an honor student in his sophomore year of high school. The family has a strong sense of faith and commitment to volunteering; they have been working on their home as well as other Habitat builds.

“It is so nice to have all of these people here to help build our home with love,” said Olabisi Ogunnoiki.

Over 30 National Grid employees and interns volunteered through National Grid’s Power to Serve Initiative partner with Habitat for Humanity and volunteer in the local communities. National Grid employee volunteers installed windows, doors, and installed siding.

“It was great to see such a great turn out of employees and interns and everyone so eager to work, we got a lot accomplished,” said Bob DeMarinis, VP of Gas Operations, National Grid. “The Habitat for Humanity event is just one of the ways in which National Grid is doing its part to give back to the communities it serves.”

The Habitat build in Mastic Beach is one of three builds that National Grid will be working on this year.

The Ogunnoiki family hopes to move into their home in January 2016.
