Children, families and individuals transitioning out of foster care with Little Flower Children and Family Services have a new store to shop for essential items needed for daily life, thanks to volunteers from National Grid’s Graduate Development Program (GDP).
The GDP volunteers spent a day volunteering at Little Flower’s facility on Long Island in the hamlet of Wading River. The volunteers transformed a storage room into a store where children and families can shop, for free, for essential items such as backpacks, diapers, jackets, blankets, shoes, boots, bedding, and other items. And for individuals beginning a life on their own, volunteers prepared kitchen supply kits with cooking utensils and dishes.
Little Flower Children and Family Services of New York is a nonprofit organization serving individuals and families across New York City and Long Island. Since 1930, Little Flower has been committed to improving the well-being of children, youth, adults with developmental disabilities, and families by building on their strengths and supporting their success. The organization provides community-based services, foster care and adoption programs, services for people with developmental disabilities, medical and behavioral health services and coordination, and residential treatment care.
The GDP is National Grid’s flagship pipeline program providing entry-level positions for recent college graduates. The GDP is designed to prepare early career professionals for future leadership roles within the organization, aims to support graduates in developing as leaders, guide their career, and increase their business talents and skills. It provides opportunities for graduates to explore a broad range of disciplines across the company’s functions and locations, work on a variety of projects and expand their network. Volunteer opportunities help GDP participants gain an understanding of National Grid’s strong commitment to the local communities.
