National Grid Partners with Local Community Organizations to Help Feed Thousands across NYC and Long Island for Thanksgiving

BROOKLYN/MELVILLE, NY – National Grid employee volunteers across New York City and Long Island are kicking off the company’s annual Project C Season of Giving by helping local community organizations pack and distribute Thanksgiving meals to support thousands of families in need. Project C is a companywide corporate responsibility and impact initiative, that supports the communities National Grid serves.
Thanksgiving Volunteer Events:
- UA3 – National Grid volunteers helped distribute 400 turkeys and fish to support distribution events at faith-based institutions and community organizations in Queens alongside UA3 with the participation of the office of New York City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams. Distribution locations included New Jerusalem Worship Center, Baisley Park Houses, Calvary Baptist Church, Baisley Park Gardens, St. Paul’s Church, Masjid Al Abidin and the Bangladeshi American Society.
- Feeding NY – Employee volunteers will help prepare and pack boxes of 2,500 Thanksgiving meals for Long Island and hundreds of others for local food banks to distribute to families across and the metropolitan area.
- Island Harvest Turkey and Trimmings Food Drive – Employee volunteers will donate 300 Thanksgiving meals and volunteers will help sort food for the Island Harvest Food Bank.
- LB Latino Civic Association – National Grid is donating Thanksgiving meals for the Long Beach Community.
- Brooklyn Borough Hall Thanksgiving Food Distribution – National Grid volunteers are joining with the Office of Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso to pack food delivery orders for community organizations and faith-based organizations.
In addition National Grid’s affiliate National Grid Ventures (NGV), which develops and invests in large-scale clean energy infrastructure, celebrated the start of the season of giving for Long Island families at the company’s Northport, E.F. Barrett and Port Jefferson power generation stations and other office locations. The more than 100 NGV employees collected turkey, stuffing and other holiday sides for four local food banks:
- Fill a Box, Feed a Family campaign of the Northport Rotary Club for Helping Hand Rescue Mission in Huntington Station
- Sacred Heart Food Pantry in Island Park
- Lighthouse Mission in Bellport
- Pronto of Long Island in Bay Shore
Other National Grid employee volunteer Season of Giving events scheduled throughout the holiday season include:
- Employee volunteers donating toys to the John Theissen Children’s Foundation 33nd Annual Long Island Toy Drive at the New York Islanders’ Northwell Health Center in Eisenhower Park in partnership with the Girls Elite Hockey team.
- Nassau County Veterans Stand Down Event - In partnership with General Needs National Grid and National Grid Ventures volunteers will sort clothing and household items to be delivered and distributed at the Nassau County Veterans Winter Stand Down Event for Veterans at the Freeport Armory.
- United Veteran Beacon House – Employee volunteers will donate essential items and restock the Linen Closet that is used to replenish Veteran homes.
- Catholic Health Toy Drive – Toys will be collected and donated to children at Good Samaritan Hospital.
- Bay Shore YMCA – Employee volunteers will help with improvement projects for the facility.
