Kimberly Ireland, a National Grid Executive with two decades of energy industry experience, has been promoted to Regional Executive for the company’s Upstate New York Eastern Division. She will work with local leaders and support the safe, reliable energy service provided to the company’s more than 600,000 electric and gas customers in the region. Her team of local leaders will work with municipalities, community agencies and other groups to strengthen National Grid’s partnerships, foster economic growth, promote energy efficiency, and move the company’s sustainable energy strategy forward.

Ireland is no stranger to New York leadership as she has served for the past five years as National Grid’s director of New York State government relations. In that role she represented National Grid and its customer’s interests with the legislative community, serving as the liaison to the Executive Chamber, State Legislature, and state agencies with a focus on advancing and promoting the company’s policies, programs, and positions.

She fostered partnerships with key influencers including the Business Council of the State of New York, Independent Power Producers of New York, New York League of Conservation Voters, AARP, Public Utilities Law Project, Labor Organizations, and the Alliance for Clean Energy, among others. She worked with these organizations to secure new laws to enable the use of utility thermal networks – an emerging technology used to decarbonize the state’s energy systems and to improve customer access to utility energy affordability programs. Her successes have earned her recognition by City and State in their Whose Who in Government Relations and Albany’s Power 100.

Ireland brings a strong understanding of energy to the role having previously served as the government affairs representative for the New York Independent System Operator and Director of the New York State Senate Energy & Telecommunications Committee.

An active community volunteer, Ireland is a member of the board of the Regional Food Bank, the Center of Economic Growth, the Capital Region Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Albany Women’s Energy Network. She is also a former board member of the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce, Capital District YMCA, and Greater Glenville YMCA Advisory Board. She has previously served as a councilwoman of the Town of Ballston and a member of the State University of New York at Cortland College Council.

Ireland earned a bachelor of arts in political science from the State University of New York at Cortland and a master’s in business of energy at Clarkson University. She resides in Burnt Hills with her husband Jim and daughters Mary and Annie.
