National Grid Launches Off-Peak Electric Vehicle Charging Program for Massachusetts Customers
Categories:
WALTHAM, MA – National Grid residential customers in Massachusetts who drive electric vehicles (EV) can now save on their at-home charging. EV drivers may enroll their compatible vehicle or home charger in National Grid’s MA EV Off-Peak Charging Program to start saving money on their electric bill.
By downloading the Charge Smart MA app, built by ev.energy for National Grid customers, and available on Google Play and Apple’s App Store, EV drivers can enroll in the Off-Peak Charging Program and earn rebates off every kilowatt-hour (kWh) of charging during off-peak hours. The Charge Smart MA app allows National Grid customers to log in using their National Grid billing account information so that any rebates earned are credited onto their electric bill. The app also enables EV drivers to track their charging costs.
Customers who enroll in the program will receive a one-time $50 enrollment incentive, followed by monthly savings that can help reduce electric bills throughout the year. Between June 1 and Sept. 30, participants are eligible to receive a rebate of 5 cents per kWh for EV charging during off-peak hours. From Oct. 1 to May 31, 2023, the rebate is 3 cents per kWh. The off-peak period is between 9 p.m. and 1 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.
“We are so excited to launch the MA EV Off-Peak Charging Program to our Massachusetts EV drivers to help them start saving even more on their commuting costs,” said Helen Burt, Chief Customer Officer, National Grid. “Not only does the program help our local EV drivers save, charging during off-peak hours helps to improve the resiliency of the electric grid and advances our goal of providing fossil-free energy to all our customers.”

The off-peak charging program is part of National Grid’s continued commitment to a clean transportation future. The program builds upon earlier incentives and infrastructure support programs aimed to meet the diverse transportation needs of all National Grid customers. The Company has a pending $278 million proposal including programs to address the EV charging needs of the customers and the communities we serve, including targeted components for low-income customers and environmental justice communities. Across all proposed programs, the company will partner with customers to deploy over 32,000 charging ports to add to the over 1,600 charging ports we have supported the installation of across Massachusetts to date.
