Girls Elite Hockey Powered by National Grid
Categories:
National Grid is proud to partner with Northwell Health Ice Center in awarding 10 eligible Girls Elite Hockey players with hockey scholarships. The girls, ages 8-19, practice and play in the state-of-the-art Northwell Health Ice Center in Eisenhower Park, which is the official practice facility for the NY Islanders.
A total of ten scholarships annually, on behalf of National Grid, will go to those girls in need of financial assistance and will be applied to their hockey season tuition. Hockey is one of the most expensive sports with the cost of equipment, ice time, team/league fees, clinics/lessons, etc. and by making it available to young girls it creates exciting opportunities.
“These girls are an inspiration, and they are breaking barriers every time they lace up their skates,” said Kathy Wisnewski, Director of Customer and Community Engagement, National Grid. “They deserve every opportunity to be empowered and reach their potential. These scholarships are in investment in our strong and healthy future leaders.”
The league is devoted to teaching life lessons through hockey and paving the way for future prep and college hockey opportunities. Coaching is provided by the best in the business led by a mostly female coaching staff comprised of former NCAA Division I players. Many of the graduating seniors go on to play competitive hockey in college.
As the sponsor of the Girls Elite Hockey Program, Northwell Health Ice Center and National Grid hosted a “Women’s Empowerment Night” for the Girls Elite Hockey Teams. The program highlights how women and girls can learn to appreciate their genuine qualities, the importance of high self-esteem, and helps to empower the next generation of women leaders.
