SYRACUSE, N.Y. — JMA Wireless opened the only U.S.-based manufacturing facility of 5G components in July 2022, bringing a 97,000-square-foot manufacturing and innovation center to Syracuse’s South Side.

The $50 million factory is located at the former Coyne Textile Services site on Tallman Street and its assembly plant is equipped with state-of-the-art electric and HVAC systems. Plant managers can reconfigure the floor within hours to meet specifications of each project.

JMA Wireless designed the building with the future in mind. It didn’t just create a headquarters for today, but it anticipated future demands that might come with expansion down the road. To meet these needs, it turned to National Grid.

Through its Electric Capital Investment Incentive program, National Grid awarded JMA Wireless a $500,000 economic development grant to ensure the proper infrastructure and service was in place for years to come.

“JMA Wireless has made a generational investment in this neighborhood, bringing jobs and innovation,” said Alberto Bianchetti, regional director of customer and community engagement for National Grid. “Finding solutions to their challenges is one of the many ways our economic development team supports this region.”

Electric service to the site was sufficient, but the infrastructure was inadequate to meet the needs of the project. Riser poles along South Clinton Avenue and Tallman Street were relocated and distribution lines connecting to the factory were moved underground. JMA Wireless and National Grid designed an underground power distribution facility for the new plant. New conduit was installed off Tallman Street in anticipation of future development.

5G is the fifth generation of cellular technology and the latest global standard for wireless communication. It is designed to deliver higher data speeds, greater reliability, and wider network capacity than previous generations.

JMA Wireless is restoring U.S. leadership in wireless technology at a critical time in the transition to 5G. The company makes the world’s most advanced and only all-software-based 5G platform, which it designs, codes, and manufactures in the United States.
