City of Lynn and National Grid Announce New Partnership to Further Clean Energy Initiatives
Categories:
WALTHAM, MA - The city of Lynn and National Grid are pleased to announce a Community Solutions partnership that will create a new full-time Energy Manager position to help support the city's efforts to advance clean energy initiatives and sustainability goals.
This partnership, made possible by a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) grant through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) awarded to National Grid in 2023, will provide the city with funding for this position and aid them in taking significant steps forward in achieving environmental and energy efficiency objectives.
"Lynn has been committed to addressing climate change and pursuing initiatives that reduce carbon emissions across the community," said Lynn Mayor Jared C. Nicholson. "We look forward to working with partners such as National Grid to move this agenda forward to achieve a greener City for all."
The new Energy Manager for the city will identify and implement energy-saving measures, enhance the city's overall energy efficiency, and help the community reach their decarbonization goals. This role will also develop community outreach strategies to empower city residents and small businesses to use energy efficiency measures and initiatives to reduce their energy burden.
The Community Solutions partnership will support the ongoing commitment to economic growth and climate change mitigation, as well as the desire to lead by example to achieve a vibrant, cost-effective, clean energy future. First-year priorities of this agreement include energy efficiency improvements to schools, municipal buildings, small businesses, and residential properties. These programs will help reduce annual utility and maintenance costs, improve operations, and reduce carbon emissions and adverse environmental impacts.
"Communities like Lynn are seeing the real, tangible benefits afforded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (IIJA), which I was proud to help pass into law,” said Congressman Seth Moulton. “By investing in dedicated local resources, like this new Energy Manager position, we’re helping Lynn achieve its clean energy goals. This is exactly what the IIJA was meant to do: provide communities the tools to combat the effects of climate change, build resiliency, and create a path to a more successful future all around.”
"National Grid is proud to partner with the City of Lynn on this critical initiative, and we look forward to years of continued collaboration," said Lisa Wieland, President of National Grid New England. "By working together, we can leverage resources and expertise to create lasting change that benefits our communities and environment."
National Grid's partnership with the city of Lynn demonstrates the company's commitment to supporting local municipalities across the Commonwealth in our shared goal of advancing Massachusetts' climate objectives, working together with the communities we serve to achieve a clean, equitable, and affordable energy future.
