National Grid Begins Road Restoration for North Quincy Cable Replacement Project
Categories:

WALTHAM, MA – National Grid has announced an initial schedule for restoring roads impacted by construction on the completed North Quincy Cable Replacement Project. With the new transmission line in service, National Grid will begin road restoration work in coordination with the City of Quincy Department of Public Works.
Survey work for upcoming road restoration began last week. Additional preparatory work on Newport Avenue will continue this week with paving mitigation expected to begin the week of March 31. The beginning phases of this work will focus on Newport Avenue. Additional schedule information for paving mitigation will be announced when it becomes available.
Roadwork will be staggered by lanes to maintain two-way traffic flow throughout working hours. Sidewalks will also be restored or replaced in certain areas.
"This major infrastructure investment is absolutely vital to protecting our electric grid for years to come, and I'm grateful to National Grid for carrying it forward to the full reconstruction of the roadways involved," said Mayor Thomas P. Koch. "The scope of the project was large, but the results will greatly benefit our community."
The North Quincy Cable Replacement Project represents a $92 million investment to modernize and strengthen National Grid's electric transmission delivery systems in Quincy through the replacement of a transmission line originally installed in 1973. Beyond Quincy, the region's transmission grid will benefit from improved safety, reliability, operational flexibility, and support for new residential and business customers.
“We appreciate the close cooperation and input from Quincy officials and the many stakeholders impacted by this project,” said Trisha Brabbs, Vice President of Project Management and Construction at National Grid. “We will ensure that residents and businesses remain informed as we undertake this next phase of the project.”
