Webster Pond Trail and Bench Dedicated in Honor of National Grid

Webster Pond is one of Syracuse’s hidden gems. Tucked away in a corner of Syracuse’s Valley neighborhood, the space is a refuge for ducks, geese and other wildlife, a place to fish, and a quiet spot to enjoy nature.

Recently, the Angler’s Association of Onondaga and Webster Pond Friends of Wildlife honored National Grid for its years of volunteerism at the pond. Part of the walking trail was dedicated to our employees for their years of support. A sign welcoming walkers to go Off the Grid is at the trailhead. A bench near the sign, invites walkers to Take a Load Off and was also dedicated to the company.
“National Grid employees have dedicated thousands of hours over the years to cleanup and beautify Webster Pond,” said Alberto Bianchetti, National Grid Regional Director of External Affairs. “We’re honored that the Webster Pond Friends of Wildlife would create a permanent tribute to National Grid’s legacy of service to the park and community.”
Employee groups visit Webster Pond regularly, cleaning up common areas and trails, as part of service activities. Large groups of employees have performed beautification tasks at the pond for Earth Day and our Project C Week of Service, the latter of which is a companywide week of community service that takes place each September.
Webster Pond, located on Valley Drive in Syracuse, was created in 1960 as a nature reserve within the city limits. It is owned by the Anglers Association of Onondaga and supported by the Webster Pond Friends of Wildlife.
