National Grid Employees Return to Buffalo Naval Park for Day of Service
Categories:
For the second year in a row, as part of National Grid's Day of Service, company employees partook in a massive day of service at Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park. This memorable day included help from approximately 120 National Grid employees who assisted with welding, carpentry work, removing rust, running electrical wire, and painting the park’s historic ships.
They were joined by staff from Highmark Inc., bringing the total number of volunteers to around 200.
In a short ceremony to commemorate lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001 and to honor veterans, National Grid Regional Director Ken Kujawa (below) said that volunteers worked to do anything that was needed to maintain the ships at the park.
"The Naval Park is a great tourist attraction but we know that on September 11, we're here for a deeper meaning, and that's to recognize those who served prior to September 11th and those who served after September 11th," he said. "We're here recognizing those who died on that day. And being here at the Naval Park gives us the opportunity to remember them and those who protect our freedoms every day."
