Buffalo Deputy Mayor Callie Johnson addresses media and guests on Aug. 17, when backpacks and school supplies were distributed to children.
For the fifth straight year National Grid has worked with the office of Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown to distribute backpacks stuffed with school supplies to school-age children from across the city who completed the mayor's summer reading program.
“For the last few years National Grid has had the privilege to work closely with so many in the city of Buffalo on what’s become a summertime tradition as we provide so many kids with supplies that they need when school starts,” said National Grid Regional Director Ken Kujawa. “This is always a fun day where collectively, we create a fun, positive experience for Buffalo schoolchildren. We very much appreciate the opportunity to work with Mayor Brown, The Teacher’s Desk and Police Athletic League for coordinating this effort.”
National Grid crews have also been in western New York communities this summer, sharing information about our trucks, equipment and their jobs at various touch a truck events:
Tom Bitterman, National Grid chief line mechanic, left, and Nathan Kulak, National Grid hot stick mechanic, are joined by Gerald Keicher of Erie County Sheriff Dept. and the department's dog, Link when introduced to a resident at Beechwood Continuing Care in Getzville. The National Grid crew brought its truck and met with residents, staff and families at the site for a second straight year on July 26.
National Grid crew members Stan Blacho, left, and Sam Ellerbrock talk with visitors about the features of a bucket truck at a July 8 event that was held at the Williamsville train depot.
Events like the backpack giveaway and touch-a-truck events align with National Grid’s Project C initiative, which is designed to go beyond providing safe, affordable energy that we provide to our customers. In collaboration with the people of New York, the company inspires positive change, create positive neighborhood impact, strengthen communities and make a difference for years to come.
