National Grid Employee Volunteers Join Youth Focused Events In Preparation For Back to School

BROOKLYN / QUEENS, N.Y. – National Grid’s dedicated team of employee volunteers partnered with community organizations at various locations across Brooklyn and Queens, distributing 400 back packs and school supplies and interacting with children and their families as summer break comes to a close and students look to the start of a new school year.

Queens

  • The first event was held on Wednesday, August 16, in Queens at The Harding Ford Vision, Inc. which provides health and wellness services in the South Jamaica Community.  In partnership with not-for-profit community organization UA3, National Grid volunteers assisted in handing out bookbags, and other school supplies to 100 children, including Sprout Pencils -- a plant-able pencil that grows into a flower, an herb, or a vegetable.
  • National Grid volunteers joined Saint John’s Episcopal Hospital on Friday, August 18 to help distribute 100 bookbags to young people within the area supported by the hospital, including the Rockaways and Five Towns in southern Queens County and southwestern Nassau County.

In addition to the school supply distribution, National Grid was a partner for the Childrens Summer Village hosted by Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso. National Grid volunteers assisted with family-fun activities families at youth camp groups. Renee McClure, National Grid Director of Community and Customer Engagement, spoke to the significance of the event and others like it, “National Grid values our long-standing partnership with Brooklyn Borough Hall and is proud to be a sponsor of this year’s Children’s Summer Village. Events such as this are at the very heart of our Project C community commitment, supporting programs and resources to providing summer fun for families.”
