WALTHAM, MA – National Grid's New England president Stephen Woerner has been selected as one of the "Power 50" of 2023 by the Worcester Business Journal, recognizing the "50 most influential professionals in Central Massachusetts."

Since joining National Grid in 2021, Woerner has been a prominent figure in Massachusetts, leading the company's New England business and its over 6,200 employees.

Under Woerner's leadership, National Grid in 2022 launched its "Grid for Good" volunteer program at Polar Park in Worcester, strengthening the company's social impact efforts among its communities. He also spearheaded National Grid's "Customer Savings Initiative," featuring more than a dozen events across the Commonwealth, including several in Central Massachusetts, that have helped thousands of customers find bill assistance and learn how to save energy. Above all, he has been committed to developing the most innovative, reliable, and affordable solutions to bring clean energy to National Grid's more than 2.2 million customers in Massachusetts.

Worcester has been at the heart of several National Grid clean energy initiatives, including a Sustainability Hub established in 2013 that serves as a focal point for the company's efforts to innovate and engage customers and communities on technologies to reduce energy use and leverage smart energy management devices. The company launched the Sustainability Hub alongside a smart grid pilot in Worcester, enabling the first deployment of smart metering technology. As the company continues to advance clean energy solutions, under Woerner's leadership, National Grid announced its first geothermal energy pilot program in Lowell last month, which will provide up to 40 customers with clean, fossil-free energy from geothermal resources. As part of National Grid's efforts to help the Commonwealth meet its net zero goals by 2050 and the company to do the same, the five-year geothermal demonstration will evaluate the potential for networked geothermal energy systems that can be applied to other communities.

"I am honored to be included alongside a group of extraordinary professionals in the Central Massachusetts region who have been selected as one of Worcester Business Journal's 'Power 50' for 2023," said Woerner. "I strive to lead National Grid in a way that makes our employees and communities proud by putting customers first and continuously driving toward a fair, affordable, clean energy future. This recognition reflects our employees' dedication to our customers and communities, and I am so pleased to accept this honor on behalf of everyone at National Grid New England."
