BROOKLYN AND HICKSVILLE, N.Y. –– National Grid is seeking information on possible non-pipeline alternatives to identify the availability of contingency supply and emerging technology solutions to help meet peak-day natural gas demand in downstate New York.

The Request for Information (RFI) will enable National Grid to gather market data and insight into how potential solutions could be executed to help meet customers’ heating and cooking needs in downstate New York. It encourages new ideas, new technologies and new approaches, as well as conventional contingency supply solutions that will be able to deliver supply over several heating seasons.

The company plans to also issue a separate RFI later this year to assess demand side solutions that will help customers reduce reliance on natural gas.

National Grid is committed to mitigating emissions from the company’s operations and those of its customers as outlined in its Net Zero by 2050 plan. The plan outlines the company’s approach to a clean energy future while still meeting the energy needs of customers in a safe, reliable and affordable manner.

Interested parties can view the RFI here; responses are due by June 8, 2021.
