National Grid Named One of the World’s Most Ethical Companies
Categories:

WALTHAM, MA – National Grid today is being recognized as one of the 2021 World’s Most Ethical Companies by the Ethisphere Institute, a global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practices. This marks the tenth time that National Grid has earned this award and makes the company one of only 10 honorees in the energy and utilities industry.
This is the second distinction National Grid has received this year, after earning a top score from the Human Rights Campaign and a spot in the Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality annual Corporate Equality Index report in January.
“It is a huge honor to be recognized as one of the world’s most ethical companies for the tenth time,” said Badar Khan, President of National Grid, US. “We strive to be a responsible business, which means looking at the way we impact the environment, the communities we serve, and our people. By acting responsibly, we act ethically and will have a positive impact on society.”
“While addressing the tough challenges of 2020, we saw companies lead – above all other institutions – on earning the trust of stakeholders through resilience and a commitment to ethics and integrity,” said Ethisphere CEO, Timothy Erblich. “The World’s Most Ethical Companies honorees continue to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to the highest values and positively impacting the communities they serve. Congratulations to everyone at National Grid for earning the World’s Most Ethical Companies designation.”
The release of National Grid’s Responsible Business Charter lays out the Company’s commitments to the environment, employees, customers, and communities. To deliver on the goals outlined in the charter, National Grid has launched inclusive programs like Grid for Good, a new initiative designed to increase social mobility and employment opportunities for disadvantaged young people in the communities they serve in the US and UK. Grid for Good will help bring diversity into the energy sector with qualified talent to help achieve the company’s net zero ambition.
The Ethisphere Institute’s proprietary Ethics Quotient®, the World’s Most Ethical Companies assessment process serves as an operating framework to capture and codify the leading practices of organizations across industries and around the globe. This year, the process was streamlined, and question set expanded to gauge how applicants are adapting and responding to the global health pandemic, environmental, social, and governance factors, safety, equity, and inclusion and social justice.
