BROOKLYN/HICKSVILLE, N.Y. – National Grid today issued its Long-term Natural Gas Capacity Report, fulfilling a provision of the Company’s November 2019 agreement with New York State. In that agreement, National Grid committed to researching and publishing a report that offers potential long-term solution options to address downstate New York’s recognized natural gas constraint issues.

The full report can be accessed at https://ngridlongtermsolutions.com. Prior to public information sessions on the report scheduled to begin in March, the website will be enhanced with additional information that highlights a summary of all options, various feedback choices and other important information. Whether customers can attend the sessions or not, there will be equal opportunity to have their voices and opinions heard and reflected prior to any final decisions being made by accessing the information and providing feedback through this website.

To promote public input, the Company will host a series of information sessions at several locations easily accessible to the public across its Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island service territories. The following is the information session schedule:

  • March 09, 6-8pm: Hicksville Community Center, 28 W. Carl Street, Hicksville, NY
  • March 12, 6-8pm: YMCA, 89-25 Parsons Blvd., Jamaica, NY
  • March 23, 6-8pm: Brentwood Public Library, 34 Second Ave., Brentwood, NY
  • March 24, 6-8pm: Brooklyn Borough Hall, 209 Joralemon St., Downtown Brooklyn, NY
  • March 25, 6-8pm: Kingsborough Community College, 2001 Oriental Blvd, Brooklyn, NY
  • March 31, 6-8pm: Fire Department, 540 Roanoke, Riverhead, NY

The information sessions will provide the public with an opportunity to review each of the options independently, have conversations with subject matter experts and ask questions. They can then choose to provide feedback at the session through a feedback statement, paper form or online survey.

“The dialogue with the public on the long-term options is an important first step in addressing the natural gas capacity constraints in downstate New York,” said Badar Khan, National Grid’s Interim U.S. President. “We want to hear from our customers and other stakeholders and understand their expectations and opinions on how we – together – can meet New York’s energy challenges. Ultimately, at the end of this process, we want to offer customers a balanced energy solution(s) that considers reliability, cost, and environmental and community impacts.”

The Company has launched a comprehensive plan to promote the meetings and channels for feedback including but not limited to its website, targeted social media, customer emails, outreach to key stakeholders and local community sources.

“A dedicated team of energy subject matter experts have worked on producing this report,” adds John Bruckner, President, National Grid New York. “Our findings and options are presented in an impartial, fact-based way, so our customers can review them as objectively as possible. We look forward to receiving their constructive feedback.”

After the public information sessions end and all the feedback is collected and reviewed, the Company will issue a supplemental report that summarizes and includes public input – all to enable an agreed long-term solution(s) with New York State by June 2020. This timeline will enable the solution(s) to be in place and in operation by the winter of 2021/2022.
