John Bruckner Named National Grid’s New York President

As Ken Daly Takes on Role of Chief Operating Officer for the Company’s US Electricity Business

National Grid has named John Bruckner, most recently the company’s executive vice president of network operations, as its New York president. Bruckner succeeds Ken Daly, who will take on the role of Chief Operating Officer for the company’s U.S. electricity business. Both appointments are immediately effective.

“After seven years at the helm, I am delighted to hand over the leadership of the New York business to my colleague and friend John Bruckner,” Daly said. “I know of no stronger leader in the energy industry, and I am confident that John, with the support of our very strong New York team, will continue to successfully meet our customers’ needs today and well into the future.” Daly noted that he and Bruckner will work together to ensure a seamless transition of responsibilities.

In his new role, Bruckner will oversee National Grid’s regulated businesses that provide electricity service to 1.6 million customers in upstate New York and natural gas service to 2.3 million customers in upstate New York, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Queens and Long Island. The company’s New York service area spans from Niagara Falls to the forks of Long Island.

Bruckner brings decades of experience across the company’s New York business to his new role. Since joining National Grid in 1985, he has held a number of positions with increasing responsibility, including division manager for electric design and construction, director of transmission and distribution project management, president of Long Island transmission and distribution and senior vice president of U.S. Electric Operations. He was named Executive Vice President of Network Operations, Safety & Capital Delivery in August 2017.

Bruckner is a graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and has a Master’s degree in Business Administration from New York Institute of Technology. He serves as a board member of Edison Electric Institute, the Long Island Association, Red Cross of Long Island, the Center for Energy Workforce Development and the New York Smart Grid Consortium.

In his new role as Chief Operating Officer, Daly will lead the delivery of safe, reliable electricity service to 3.3 million customers across New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. He joined National Grid in 1988 as a Management Trainee in the Customer Relations department. In addition to his role as New York president, he has served as National Grid’s Global Financial Controller, Chief Financial Officer of the U.S. and U.K. gas distribution businesses, and has held numerous positions in Finance, Human Resources and Customer Relations.

A graduate of St. Francis College, Daly holds an MBA from St. John’s University and an MS from New York University. Additionally, he completed the Harvard University Advanced Management Program and has achieved the distinguished Chartered Financial Analyst designation. Daly is a member of the David Rockefeller ‘Fellows Program,’ the Long Island Energeia Partnership, and serves on the boards of the Advanced Energy Research and Technology Center, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, the New York City Partnership and Ridgewood Savings Bank.

In other National Grid appointments, Cordi O’Hara, formerly National Grid’s Massachusetts president, has been named chief operating officer of the company’s U.S. natural gas business. Rudy Wynter will continue to serve as president of Transmission, Generation, and FERC, and will expand his duties to include New York transmission, as well as regulated energy storage assets and opportunities.
