WALTHAM, Mass. – National Grid’s commitment to working with local communities to encourage the next generation of the energy workforce will be showcased through local events this week celebrating Careers in Energy.
Students from Massachusetts schools will learn about National Grid’s electricity and gas businesses by exploring our state of the art Mobile Emergency Operations Center, witnessing a Live Line Demonstration typically used to train our first responders, and attending a career fair featuring various segments of the business, such as energy efficiency and customer metering services.
Secretary of Labor and Workforce Development Rosalin Acosta will join National Grid as a guest speaker on Oct. 13.
“At National Grid we are improving our energy networks and need ideas to deliver a 21st century experience for our customers,” said Cordi O’Hara, president of National Grid in Massachusetts. “Turning those concepts into reality provides a wealth of opportunity for students and others interested in STEM education. Events such as these are part of our year-round effort to showcase an industry full of promise and potential.”
Careers in Energy Week is a national effort by the Center for Energy Workforce Development (CEWD) celebrated in October to increase the public’s awareness about energy careers. National Grid will host open houses, information sessions, and school visits from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through October 13 at the National Grid Training Center in Millbury. Interested media should RSVP to Bob Kievra at Robert.Kievra@nationalgrid.com to attend one of the events.

CEWD was formed to help utilities work together to develop solutions to the coming workforce shortage in the utility industry. It is the first partnership between utilities, their associations, contractors and unions to focus on the need to build a skilled workforce pipeline that will meet future industry needs.
