National Grid Building To Undergo Energy Efficiency Lighting Upgrades
Mar 12, 2015SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The lights on the tower of the iconic National Grid building will be taken off line for lighting repairs and maintenance. An Art Deco masterpiece in the downtown Syracuse skyline, the National Grid building was last refreshed in 1999 by famed lighting designer, Howard Brandston. The project is expected to include replacement of lighting in the tower section of the building with energy efficiency LED lights and upgrades to the lighting control system.
“It is time to make necessary upgrades to the building’s lighting system,” said Dennis Gleason, manager facilities operation for National Grid. “Maintaining the system is vital to our continued support of the community and local organizations, an honor we take seriously to continue to shine proudly a spectacular beacon of light.”
The installation of LED lights is expected to add to the building’s prominent array of colorful lighting that will glow even brighter as part of necessary upgrades that will take place once work commences over the next several weeks. The energy efficiency measures are anticipated to begin this spring.
An extraordinary example of Art Deco, the National Grid building is on the National Register of Historic Places and recently featured as part of a photo collection on Central New York Spaces.
